A LIVING ATLAS
The Global Animal Testing Index (GATI)
The Global Animal Testing Index (GATI) assesses whether a country’s legal and policy framework is helping to end animal testing or enabling it. Explore countries to understand how legislation, regulation and government policy are shaping the future of animal testing around the world.
GATI does not assess whether laws, policies or strategies simply exist. It assesses whether they meaningfully facilitate the end of animal testing.
THE GLOBAL ANIMAL TESTING INDEX
Countries assessed: 4
- Progressive – Legal and policy framework meaningfully facilitates the end of animal testing.
- Mixed Significant reforms introduced, but the overall framework still permits animal testing.
- Regressive – Legal and policy framework continues to enable animal testing.
Assessments based on published GATI methodology.

Science & ethics
Compassion isn’t an
obstacle to science.
It’s the next step.
Every year, more than 192 million animals are used in experiments. The science to replace them already exists — what we need now is conviction, investment and policy alignment.
